Tyquan Black, 18, hopped behind the wheel of the SUV, which was first spotted by state troopers on Route 280 in Essex County, New Jersey State Police said.
The car was later spotted by troopers at the intersection of Lyons and Fabyan Place in Newark around 2 a.m. Sunday, March 20, New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota said.
Black, of Irvington, drove into the intersection when he saw the marked troop car, hitting an ambulance that had its light and sirens activated, Slota said.
The man was charged with receiving stolen property, assault by auto, eluding, obstruction and criminal mischief. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
